About Us
In July 2025, the pub was taken over by Matt Birch and Jo Smith, who are both very passionate about the hospitality industry and know what a great pub should mean to the community. Both own other successful businesses, so are not afraid of hard work and instilling a culture which will ensure the pub succeeds in its own right. This culture is reflected by all members of staff who extend friendly welcome to all our customers.
Matt and Jo want to ensure that the Powell is a true community pub; after all it stands proudly in the very heart of the village, enjoying a whole cacophony of sounds from the neighbouring church bells, the hustle and bustle of passing traffic and the mutterings of passers-by. It is and will continue to be a safe space for everyone to drink, eat and sleep.

Our amazing front garden, takes pride of place in Birchington…… and will always be a venue for our customers to socialise, make new friends, watch the world go by and be entertained by great music during the warmer months.
The Powell serves great ‘pub grub’ and is being served 6/7 days a week. During the winter the kitchen is closed on a Tuesday. We have very quickly become a destination for Sunday lunch, so book early to avoid disappointment.
tHE menu Sunday Roast MenuSoon after Matt & Jo opened the pub they made the decision to move away from a formal restaurant to a more relaxed pub dining experience. This has meant the space and environment are ideal for hosting various parties and gatherings. The separate and virtually private lounge bar and orangery are perfect for parties, wakes or any gathering. We do not charge venue hire and buffets are very reasonably priced and prepared with a lot of love.

ROOMS
The accommodation at the Powell is wonderful; six appointed rooms which all have their own character and individual personality. All rooms have Freeview TV, coffee facilities and en suite shower rooms. Room service will be available during pub opening hours.
The Powell rooms are the perfect venue for families and friends to book, the top floor boasts four rooms, with a further two rooms on the first floor and a lounge area for guests to relax. Entrance to the property is keyless and instructions to enter the building will be communicated prior to arrival.
